PUNE: A 26-year-old software engineer died in an accident in Chikhali on Monday, in which her head came under the wheels of a truck The techie, Mrunmai Saurabh Joshi, was riding a scooter on her way to work in Talawade, when the accident occurred. She was wearing a helmet. The driver of the truck has been arrested.Joshi was a resident of Shahunagar in Chinchwad. She worked as an associate consultant for a Talawade-based software firm. Police said she left for work as usual on Monday. She was riding towards Talawade on the Chikhali-Kudalwadi Road. “As she rode near the Chikhaligaon arch, a truck going in the same direction bumped into her scooter,” Y S Solapure, sub-inspector of the Chikhali police told TOI.Joshi immediately lost balance and fell from the scooter. “Her head came under the wheels of the truck, killing her instantly,” Solapure said. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where the doctors confirmed her death.The driver of the truck abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot, but police were able to track him down using the truck’s registration information. The driver, Pundalik Kharat, was arrested under charges of causing death due to negligence and rash driving. “We took him into custody on Tuesday,” Solapure said.Joshi’s father-in-law Milind Kulkarni lodged a police complaint in this regard. “We have lost our daughter, that too when there was not fault of hers. I told the police officer that the driver should get the maximum punishment,” Kulkarni said.Kulkarni said that Mrunmai was wearing a helmet. “But, the impact of the accident was so severe, that the doctors faced great difficulty in removing the helmet from her head.He said that Mrunmai’s husband, Saurabh, too is a software engineer. “They got married about two years ago. Since then, Mrunmai had won everyone’s hearts in our family. She is very enthusiastic and would take part in every function in our family,” Kulkarni said.
