PUNE: The Pimpri police on Thursday registered an offence against a teacher of a coaching class for allegedly raping a 17-year-old student on the promise of marriage.The alleged incident occurred between December 2017 and May 2018 at a lodge in Nigdi. The student lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday when the teacher refused to marry her.The suspect has been booked under sections 376 ( rape ), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage) of the Indian Penal Code as well as the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.An officer from the Pimpri police told TOI that the complainant is a student at a city-based private college and used to attend private coaching classes. She came in contact with the suspect who was a teacher there.“After getting acquainted with the student, the suspect started dropping at her college. He used to pick her up from the college and take her to a lodge in Nigdi where he used to rape her on the promise of marriage,” the officer said.The officer said that the suspect is on the run. “We have launched a search for him,” he said.In August last year, a29-year-old dance teacher was arrested on Wednesday for repeatedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter for nine months.Earlier in the year, in May, The Pune rural police had arrested a 31-year-old teacher of a private school for repeatedly raping a 15-year-old Class X student. The teacher had assaulted the minor girl at his house and at his colleague’s house. He also threatened her to keep quiet, saying that he would post her photos on social media.
