The posts of two professors and four associate professors lie vacant.The university has a floating roster of ad hoc lecturers, with two more being added to their ranks for a one-year tenure. “One (of the new lecturers) brought a printout from Sparknotes (an online repository of study guides) to teach, while the other says in class that he has not read the author he is teaching, but knows about him,” the letter read.“These teachers switch to Marathi or Hindi, making it difficult for foreign students to communicate or comprehend,” the letter further read.“One (lecturer) teaches Aesthetics, while the other teaches Marxism and Literature. However, both are clueless about their subjects. Even a high school teacher probably knows more,” a second-year student said.In response to the letter, the SPPU has asked other ad hoc lecturers teach these subjects till the end of the term. “The issues raised by students will be resolved at the departmental level ... The old teachers will be requested to complete the remaining curricula,” SPPU registrar Prafulla Pawar said.However, the move has not gone down well with the students. “There is just a month left for the term-end exam ... They should have made the change at the beginning of the term, and not the end,” another second-year student said.Attempts to contact one ad hoc lecturer and the acting HoD went unanswered.
