PUNE: The city police’s patrolling prowess got a major boost on Friday with 100 new motorcycles joining the fleet.These motorcycles will be given 10 beat marshals in over 100 police chowkeys for patrolling purposes.Each motorcycle is equipped with a siren, a public announcement (PA) system, flash lights and two helmets. “We expect to get more motorcycles through the smart city project,” he added.Till now, the police had 350 mostly old motorcycles. This was an initiative under Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd company’s corporate social responsibility. “We can react faster with the new bikes,” additional commissioner of police Ravindra Sengaonkar said. “With this, our responsibility of responding to crime has also increased,” Venkatesham said.
