Hospital ward boy held for vehicle theft

Through the day, Ghadage would recce parking lots in Pimpri Chincwad on a stolen motorcycle. He had even given some motorcycles to his friends and relatives, Sonawane said.Sonawane said that the suspect was working as a ward boy in a private college during the night.

PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: At night, the 21-year-old suspect would work as a ward boy at a private hospital. During the day, he would get busy stealing two-wheelers from parking lots in Pimpri Chinchwad.The Nigdi police have recovered 18 stolen motorcycles worth Rs 10.27 lakh from the suspect, Sambhaji Kisas Ghadage of Dehugaon, who hails from Beed district.Ghadage allegedly spent the money on buying new clothes and merry making with his female friends. His parents are farm labourers, who earned money by cutting sugar cane. They had given Ghadage their savings worth Rs 40,000 so that he could seek admission to a nursing course and earn a better salary. “But Ghadage’s mother received a shock when she came to know that, instead of pursuing the nursing course, her son was stealing vehicles,” said assistant police inspector L N Sonawane of the Nigdi police.Sonawane added that police constables Somnath Divate and Pravin Muluk received a tip-off that a man involved in stealing vehicles would be reaching Raver on March 26 to sell a stolen motorcycle. “We laid a trap and took Ghadage into custody,” Sonawane said.During questioning, the officer said that Ghadade admitted that he stolen more than 20 motorcycles from Pimpri Chinchwad over the past few months. “We have recovered 18 motorcycles from him. He claimed that he had sold two motorcycles in Solapur district,” Sonawane said.So far, the police have detected 15 cases, including seven registered with the Pimpri police, three with the Dehu Road police, two with the Bhosari MIDC police and one each with the Nigdi, Pimpri and Chakan police. “We are yet to trace the owners of the remaining motorcycles,” Sonawane said.The officer pointed out that Ghadage had sold the stolen vehicles at throwaway prices.
