Pune Metro: Workers discover 57-metre long British era tunnel during excavation30 Mar 2019, 02:29PM ISTSource: TNNWorkers commissioned for ground excavation near Pune’s Swargate bus depot for the city’s ongoing Metro project, discovered a 57-metre underground tunnel about 4.5 metres below ground level. A pipeline has also been spotted coming from the water canal flowing at a distance of about 30 metre from the tunnel. A MahaMetro official said, ‘There is a plan to dig further as the Swargate Metro station will come up around 20 metre below the ground level. The canal and tunnel are parallel and are linked by a pipe’. A preliminary inspection revealed that the tunnel had been constructed around the 1940s for pumping and distribution of water.
