PUNE: Swarms of mosquitoes descending at the dead of night are giving sleepless nights to residents of Baner-Pashan area , forcing them to hit the society WhatsApp groups to exchange notes and seek solution to their daily problems.While there has not been any outbreak of disease so far in the area, local residents are clueless about the reason for the spurt in winged menace. They said that despite carrying out fumigation a fortnight back, the mosquito problem has refused to fade away.Manish Mishra, a resident of Link Road, said that their society WhatsApp groups have been coming alive around 3.30am every day because nobody can sleep due to the mosquitoes. “The conversations are all about mosquitoes. This is unprecedented. It’s shocking that the mosquitoes have become immune to repellents. A Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) official attributed the reason for the rise in the number of mosquitoes to the increase in under-construction buildings, which leads to water stagnation in the area, but this is nothing new.”Ravindra Sinha, a resident, said that the surge in mosquitoes is baffling since the societies are taking extra measures to keep the surroundings clean.Uma Tripathi, a resident of Mont Vert Biarritz, said that even fumigation hasn’t helped to control the menace. “We had carried out fumigation almost 15 days ago because of the increase in mosquitoes.
