Pune: A gang of unidentified men cut open a public sector bank’s ATM in Khalumbre village near Chakan and stole Rs15.94 lakh in the early hours of Saturday.This was the eighth incident in which cash was stolen from ATMs in the Pimpri Chinchwad area since July last year. In all, Rs1.2 crore in cash was stolen from ATMs across the city.“We suspect involvement of an inter-state gang in these thefts,” a Pimpri Chinchwad police officer said.The theft was discovered on Saturday morning, when a customer of the bank went to the ATM and found it cut open. The customer immediately alerted the Chakan police. An employee of the agency that manages the ATM for the bank has lodged a complaint.Sub-inspector Pramod Kathore, who is probing the case, told TOI that no security guard was deployed at the ATM kiosk in Khalumbre, which is about 32k from Pune. “Before entering the kiosk, the suspects had changed the direction of the CCTV cameras installed outside.
