Pune: A robber sustained injuries on his face after residents of the Gahunje area thrashed him for biting the hand of a man while attempting to escape after snatching a gold chain on Saturday.The robber, Akshay Baban Yadav (28), was fleeing from a house in Bhakti Niwas after trying to snatch a gold chain of a 60-year-old woman. He is undergoing treatment. He has been booked under section 393 (robbery attempt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).Inspector Narayan Pawar said, “Yadav barged into the house and tried to snatch the woman’s gold chain. She was alone in the house and started raising an alarm. Suspecting trouble, Yadav started running towards his accomplice who was waiting on a motorcycle. However, the elderly woman followed him and continued to scream for help. The woman’s son was nearby, while other residents rushed to the spot as well. The residents were trying to stop Yadav, when he decided to bite the son’s hand. The residents tried to release the man, but Yadav’s grip was strong. They then had to hit him on his face to release him,” Pawar said.Meanwhile, some residents alerted the police.“Our team reached the spot and took Yadav to the hospital. The accomplice had sped away. Yadav’s father-in-law lives in the same locality. Our probe is on,” Pawar added.
