Ganesh immersion processions end in Pune after 28 hours

Pune, Sep 10 (PTI) The Ganesh immersion processions in Pune city which had started on Friday morning came to a close after 28 hours and 29 minutes on Saturday afternoon, police said. As many as 3,13,444 Ganesh idols were immersed in various water bodies in the city on Anant Chaturdashi, the last day of the festival.They included 3,10,601 household Ganesh idols and 2,843 "Sarvajanik" idols installed in roadside pandals.As many as 608 Ganesh Mandals took out processions along four important thoroughfares leading to the Mutha river -- Laxmi Road, Tilak Road, Kelkar Road and Kumthekar Road.The immersion procession had begun on Friday with the idol of the first of the five `Manache Ganapati" (preeminent Ganesh), the Kasba Ganpati Mandal, setting out at 10.02 am. All five Manache Ganpati Mandals, namely, Kasba Ganpati, Tambadi Jogeshwari, Guruji Talim Mandal, Tulshibag Ganpati Mandal and Kesariwada immersed their Ganesh idols in artificial water tanks on Friday itself.Some other prominent Mandals including Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati Trust, Akhil Mandai Mandal and Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Trust bid adieu to the lord on Saturday.
