Pune, Sep 13 (PTI) Seven persons have been arrested by police in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra for allegedly killing a 31-year-old man over an inter-faith relationship.Those arrested included the Muslim woman"s father and two uncles, said a police official on Tuesday.The accused confessed to having beaten up Dipak Barde, the victim, and throwing his body into the Godavari river in Srirampur tehsil though the body was yet to be found, the police official said.A case was registered against seven people including the woman"s father, uncle, maternal uncle and four others under IPC sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) and 364 ( kidnapping), he said.Barde and the woman, both from Bhokar village in Srirampur tehsil, had eloped two months ago, but her relatives traced them and brought her back."On August 30, Barde went to Pune to find a job. The next day his father was told by some people in the village that his son had been abducted by a relative of the girl"s father in Pune"s Wagholi area. He then filed a police complaint," the official said.Four suspects including the woman"s father, his brother and brother-in-law were arrested on September 1 and later three more persons were arrested."During interrogation, the accused said they took Barde to Bhokar village where he was beaten up and then thrown into the river," the official said.While police have pressed a charge of murder against them, the search for Barde"s body is still on, he said.
