PMRDA spots 1,145 illegal structures, demolishes 56

Pune: PMRDA has identified 1,145 illegal structures and razed 56 of them over the past nine months.According to a senior official of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the drive has lost pace due to the monsoon and will be intensified in the next three months.We have identified illegal structures with the help of drones. It is specially helpful to identify structures which have been illegally plotted on vacant government lands. We have pulled down such structures, Monica Singh, head of the PMRDAs illegal construction demolition department said. The authority, since 2015, has identified 9,349 illegal structures for which a total of 1,920 notices have been issued and 324 such structures have been pulled down.With illegal plotting becoming rampant in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR), FIRs have been registered against the violators. Officials said around 100 FIRs have been registered and 76 more are likely to be filed in connection with illegal plotting.The region is spread across 6,000 sq km and regular drives are being conducted to check illegal structures. It will be easier to keep a check on illegal construction if all departments involved in granting permission have a system to keep tabs on them, another senior official said.We also published the following articles recentlyIllegal structures on gram sabha land to be razedAuthorities in Prayagraj have identified over 20 illegal structures, including boundary walls, on gram sabha land and have started demolishing them. This comes after the arrest of eight individuals involved in a triple murder case. The joint teams of revenue, police, and administration are checking documents and records to ensure that the arrested individuals did not make any illegal constructions on the land. The demolition drive is part of the ongoing crackdown on unauthorized structures across various cities in India, including Pune, Ludhiana, Kolkata, and Thane.Civic team razes illegal structures of eateries & stores on FC RoadThe Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has demolished unauthorized constructions at food joints and other commercial establishments in the city. The establishments, including Vaishali restaurant and Queens Shop, were found to be flouting norms. The PMC officials have stated that this drive against illegal structures will continue in the future. The civic administration has also taken action against the illegal use of parking spaces and rooftop eateries. A total of 61 food joints operating on rooftops have been targeted so far.Six illegally constructed shops razedThe municipal corporation in Ludhiana took action against six shops being constructed illegally in Haibowal area. The shops were in violation of building bylaws, and a complaint had been received. The owner was issued a warning. The civic body has been conducting regular drives against illegal constructions and has urged residents to obtain building plans approval before initiating construction. In other news, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation will withhold completion certificates for buildings where trees have been illegally cut, and the Thane civic commissioner has warned against providing water and power connections to illegal constructions. The Calcutta High Court has urged the mayor to take action against officials who failed to act on an illegally built high-rise.
