3 traffic constables suspended, 47 moved for dereliction of duty

Pune: Three traffic police personnel were suspended on Thursday by deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Vijay Magar for staying away from their assigned spot of duty during the ongoing Ganeshotsav.Besides the three personnel, 47 constables have been moved to the traffic control room, while 23 others were fined Rs 2,000 each for similar offence. Magar, during an assessment of traffic police deployment in the city on Monday and Tuesday, found that these policemen were away from their assigned spot and some of them were even absent without informing their superiors.Magar, while talking to TOI, said, The city roads are crowded due to the Ganapati festival. These constables were assigned spots to manage traffic and pedestrians who would be visiting old parts of the city for offering prayers at different pandals. We understand that the personnel can have problems, but they should inform their seniors before leaving their spots. He added, We imposed fines on those constables who gave unsatisfactory answers during the inquiry. Three were suspended after they did not report to duty and went somewhere else. About one third of the traffic police personnel will be women, in accordance with the state governments reservation policy.Traffic diverted today for idol immersionTraffic diversions will be in place in Lucknow for the immersion of Lord Ganesh idols. The diversions will start at 7am and will affect several areas of the city. Vehicles will be diverted towards alternative routes, such as Chiraiya Jheel and Nishatganj/Daliganj bridge. Traffic from Hazratganj to Parivartan Chowk will also be redirected. The aim of these diversions is to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic during the immersion process.Mumbai Police to deploy more than 19,000 personnel for immersion of Ganesh idols on Anant ChaturdashiMumbai Police will deploy over 19,000 personnel, including officers, to ensure security during the upcoming idol immersion processions on September 28. Similar security arrangements will be in place for Eid-e-Milad, with various Muslim organizations agreeing to postpone their processions to coincide with the events. Traffic Police will manage traffic flow during the processions, and CCTV cameras and plainclothes policemen will monitor the crowds. Separate control rooms will be established to oversee the processions and respond to any emergencies.
