Pune: The city-based Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company (BAGIC) has launched a policy aimed at covering people for their short or long-distance domestic tours.The premiums for these policies start for as low as Rs 5 for a single trip insurance. The company is also planning tie-ups with cab aggregators and tour operators to sell insurance through their portals."The concept of travel insurance was only associated with flight travel. We thought why not bring a product for domestic travel since so many people are traveling within the country. The cover can be for as low as a few hours to a year. The basic cover is for Personal Accident and there are several add-on covers that one can opt for," Abhijeet Ghosh, head of Health Insurance, BAGIC, said.In early 2016, the company launched a similar plan for overseas visitors and provided cover for adventure sports too — an industry first. Ghosh said the company sold 150% more global travel insurance policies than it had anticipated and has similar "aggressive" targets for the domestic travel insurance.Data is scarce to design a product that includes adventure sports, but Ghosh said the company could get some vital inputs from partner Allianz on designing this product. The company also provides 16 more add-ons to the domestic tour insurance, which it has christened 'Bharat Bhraman'.The sum insured for the plan ranges from Rs 50,000 to Rs 10 lakh. The premium will range from Rs 5 to about Rs 3,500 depending on the tenure, sum insured and add-ons opted. Ghosh said the only condition for adventure sports is that it has to be done under some expert supervision.
