Pune: Rainfall in Pune is likely to peter out in the next few days, with only a few spells and light rain expected till July 3.The city was among the stations that recorded the lowest rainfall in the state on Tuesday.Rainfall in the city has reduced considerably in the last few days to intermittent spells once or twice a day.Though the city received 6.9 mm rainfall during a 24-hour period till 8:30 am Tuesday morning, its rainfall quota for the rest of the day was only 1.9 mm till 5.30 pm on Tuesday — recorded at IMD's Shivajinagar observatory. Lohegaon observatory too recorded minimal rain of 1.8 mm on Tuesday.Pune was also among the stations in central Maharashtra that recorded the lowest rainfall on Tuesday, including Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli. Other stations — Mahabaleshwar, Malegaon and Nashik received double digit rainfall on the day, the highest in Mahabaleshwar was 35 mm.Met department officials had earlier told TOI that low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal was pulling strong winds prevailing over the Arabian Sea towards the interiors, causing rains to hit interior Maharashtra, including Pune, a couple of days ago."This system was drawing the monsoon current beyond the Western Ghats, towards the interiors. However, the low pressure has now moved inland and has become less marked. Hence, only a few spells of rain and light rains are expected in Pune during the next few days," he said.
