Pune: The Chatushrungi police arrested a 31-year-old man for brutally beating up — and causing the death of — a 24-year-old chicken shop operator who had refused to part with Rs 200 on Tuesday night.Dayanand Dhome, the senior inspector of Chatushrungi police station, said Prashan, alias Anna Jadhav, of Gokhalenagar, located off Senapati Bapat road, has been arrested for beating Bajle Karim Sahdullah Shaikh to death.Jadhav's father had leased out the shop to Shaikh a few years ago. Dhome said Jadhav was in the habit of demanding cash, ranging from Rs50 to Rs100, to buy alcohol. "Jadhav's father had asked Shaikh to not give any money to his son because he spent it all on liquor," he said.Following the elderly man's instructions, Shaikh refused to give Jadhav any money."At around 10 pm on Tuesday, Jadhav came to the shop on his scooter and demanded Rs200. When Shaikh refused, Jadhav grabbed him and tried to beat him up. The chicken shop operator , however, managed to free himself and run to Jadhav's residence to inform his father. But the suspect chased him on his scooter and beat him up," Dhome said.Meanwhile, Angur Shaikh Gulam Murshid, one of Shaikh's employees, who was waiting at the shop, decided to go to Jadhav's residence to check on his boss."Murshid found Shaikh lying unconscious on the road near Jadhav's residence. He sought help from Jadhav as well as other people and rushed Shaikh to the hospital. Doctors informed them that the young man had died," he said.Murshid then lodged a complaint with the Chatushrungi police station later in the night stating that Jadhav had brutally kicked and punched Shaikh and he died of internal injuries, Dhome said.
