Pimpri Chinchwad: Roseland Residency, a housing society in Pimple Saudagar, will start dockless cycle rental service — PEDL — on November 25 with the help of a private company. This will help people rent cycles to reach bus rapid transit system stations or offices in Hinjewadi IT park and other destinations.Roseland housing society chairman Santosh Maskar said, "There is a need to encourage people to use cycles to go for errands. This will reduce traffic congestion and pollution. We later want to extend the service to other areas of the city."Chandan Chourshiya, joint secretary of the society, said, "The first stop for this service will be Roseland society. Anyone with a minimum balance of Rs 10 in his or her PayTM account can use this service. One has to go to the website of the rental service or use the app and follow the instructions to unlock a cycle by a code. The balance will be deducted from the PayTM account.""As there is only one rental spot available now, the user will have to return and deposit the cycle here. Rent for half-an-hour is Rs10. Later as rental spots increase, the user can deposit the cycle at any of those near his destination." He said other societies and the civic body too can collaborate to start such a service.The service is being operated in association with Zoomcar. Agam Garg, business head, Pune of Zoomcar said, "The service at present exists in Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. We have now started it in Pune at our office in Hinjewadi with 20 cycles and Balaji University campus in Tathawade with 40 cycles.""We will start the service in Roseland Society with 50 cycles. Initially we will provide one cycle on rent at the rate of Re 1 per half-hour for 15 days, after which the rates will increase to Rs 10 per half-hour. We aim to increase the rental spots in both Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad."
