Pandwani exponent, Teejan Bai to be discharged from hospital today

After suffering a cardiac arrest on Friday, internationally acclaimed Pandwani singer and Padmashree awardee Teejan Bai , celebrated as Chhattisgarh’s musical treasure, gets discharged from hospital today. According to a close source of Teejan Bai, “Her condition is stable now and she is going to get discharged today. The Pandwani exponent was admitted to OPD at a Sector-9 hospital in Bhilai on Saturday morning and later that day, was kept in the ICU. On June 6, the 62-year-old singer was in New Delhi to attend an event where she suffered severe chest pain and breathing problems. After few hours, she felt better and came back to Bhilai where she met her cardiologist Dr Rashmi Verma.

After few hours, she felt better and came back to Bhilai where she met her cardiologist Dr Rashmi Verma. That’s when it was diagnosed that she had suffered minor cardiac arrest. According to a close source of Teejan Bai, “Her condition is stable now and she is going to get discharged today. She is looking forward to performing in Japan in December and she is in good spirits.”We spoke to Dr Kaushalendra Thakur, head of the hospital who says, “Teejan has been suffering from chest pain and other age-related problems. She was kept in the ICU for observation. There is nothing to worry about her health, now her condition is fine.”—At age 13, Teejan Bai performed in public for the first time—Her big break came when she was called to perform for then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi in 1983.—She received national and international recognition, a Padmashree in 1988, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1995, and Padma Bhushan in 2003.—She travelled all over the world as a cultural ambassador,to England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, Tunisia, Malta, Cyprus, Romania and Mauritius.
