RAIPUR: A youth committed suicide after his girlfriend was gang-raped in front of him on September 1 when the couple was caught at an isolated location at a village in Chhatisgarh's Korba district . The youth went in trauma and guilt after the incident as he was also beaten up black and blue by the accused.The incident took place on September 1 and youth Sawan Sai, 19, committed suicide on September 2. While the police had registered a case and were investigating the reason for his extreme step, the minor rape survivor displayed courage and approached Katghora police to narrate the incident on September 12. SDOP Katghora Sandeep Mittal said that the minor girl who is a tribal was returning from a local market on September 1 evening when she met her friend Sawan on the way. They were walking through an isolated location near a school in Bhelwatikra when the two accused came on a bike and started threatening them after snatching their mobile phones away.Identified as Ishwar Das and Khem Kanwar aged 22, objected against the couple roaming around at a deserted place after dark and thrashed Sawan badly. Terrified with the sight, the girl rushed towards the village to seek help but the accused chased her down few metres away. Dragging her to the spot where Sawan lied bleeding, the accused gang-raped the girl and abandoned the victims there."Both of them returned home somehow but Sawan apparently was soaked in distress after the incident. He was found hanging to the ceiling at his home," Mittal said.'The investigation is under way. While the last rites rituals for twelve days continued in the deceased family, the girl went to Katghora police station and narrated the incident quoting it as a reason for his suicide on Wednesday evening," said SDPO.Police have arrested the accused under Sections of POCSO Act and IPC.
