Dengue deaths: Congress holds protest under mosquito nets in Raipur

RAIPUR: District Congress on Tuesday staged a protest against the dengue deaths in the state by sitting under mosquito nets. As a part of the campaign, Congress workers also visited schools and asked students to wear full-sleeved, full-legged clothing to prevent mosquito bites. Blocked drains and garbage dumps are also being cleared with the help of citizens to clear breeding spots. ""We ensure that households in an area have cleaned their water tanks, do not have stagnant water or stale water stored in coolers," he said.The Congress workers have also deployed a team for spraying anti-larva medicine in the at-risk and congested corners of Raipur . For the last one month, we have started a door-to-door campaign, and are educating residents how to prevent vector borne diseases via nukkad nataks, public meetings among others.

They also put up a banner which read, "dengue ka ilaaj bada mehenga, upay bada sasta," (Treatment for dengue is expensive, precautionary measure is cheap) - to create awareness about using mosquito nets for protection from vector-borne diseases.Congress leader, Vikas Upadhyay , said that the government is not serious about the dengue outbreak and the casualties of it, even as over 150 people are undergoing treatment and many new patients are reported daily.Encouraging residents to use mosquito nets, repellents, keep surrounding clean, Upadhyay said, "It has been nearly two months, but, health department could not control the dengue outbreak, hence, Congress workers took initiative to spread awareness among citizens.
