Youth Congress leader's tongue cut off, face slashed in Bhilai

RAIPUR: A Youth Congress leader 's tongue and lips were hacked off in Bhilai after he addressed a gathering of party workers in Sajja constituency on October 31. The assailants waylaid him near Shivnath river, near Durg, chopped off his tongue and cut up his face viciously, he said. They also allegedly threatened him for speaking at a gathering of Congress workers in Sajja constituency where former Leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey is the fray. Police have registered a case against unknown persons and are examining the medical report to see if his injuries match his allegations.As per the complaint, Youth Congress leader Rahul Dani was attacked on the night of October 31 while returning from a rally at Dhamda. He was unconscious for over five days and filed the complaint on regaining consciousness on Monday.

The assailants left him bleeding on the road. Villagers saw him and took him to a hospital from where he was shifted to Bhilai.Durg SP, Dr Sanjeev Shukla, told TOI there are contradictions in the statements Rahul gave on the night he was admitted to hospital and on regaining consciousness. He said Rahul’s initial statement indicated that his injuries were caused due to a road accident but he later mentioned that he was attacked due to political rivalry.
