Strengthening night patrol new Raipur SPs top priority

Money once gone in such fraud cases is hard to recover, even after the accused is arrested.

RAIPUR: Known for his social welfare campaigns, the new Raipur superitendent of police (SP) Arif Shaikh who has been accorded with popular police Oscar award for initiating community policing and cracking whip on child traffickers plans to strengthen night patrolling and push for better traffic management in the state capital.The new SP said that he will be accessible to the public directly on twitter. Talking to TOI, the police officer said that he has launched a special campaign deploying 250 cops at 60 points of the city to keep a check on anti-social elements that get active late at night."Night owls will have to be careful now in the state capital. The persons will be checked for their ID cards. Cops have been directed to conduct thorough examination of suspicious persons found roaming at odd hours. This move comes in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections," said Shaikh adding that a record of miscreants will be kept by the cops which will help them in solving crimes in the future. An analysis is also being done of the trends in crime in Raipur, based on which an area-centric plan will be chalked out, he said.The senior police office said that there has been an increasing number of ATM fraud cases for which he will launch an e-raksha mission which will work with the cybercrime unit of the police department."Awareness is the key in such cases. Money once gone in such fraud cases is hard to recover, even after the accused is arrested. There is a need to spread awareness among general public to be wary of such incidents." Said Shaikh, adding, "A Twitter handle in the name of Raipur Police is being created wherein people can get in touch with me directly. I would personally look into the cases and respond on Twitter. This is a replica of the Bilaspur campaign which helped gain people's confidence in police and made them feel safe," he said. Talking about his plans for women safety, he said a Raksha team will be deployed in the city and its strength beefed up. In addition, molestation, harassment and those looking to police couples in public spaces will be dealt with strictly. He said, strengthening community policing has been successful in the districts he has worked so far and he will try to do the same in Raipur as well.Expressing concern over children victimized to substance abuse, Shaikh said that he will introduce a full-fledged plan to identify these children, send them to de-addiction centres and rehabilitate them. In addition, status of missing children is being checked, and an 'Operation Smile' will be launched to trace them.Shaikh also said that he will check with each cop under him and discuss with them issues and challenges that they face and take steps to better them, on the lines of what the state director general of police (DGP) DM Awasthi is doing.He also said that as a gift for their birthday, police personnel will be given a greeting card, box of sweets and an off day to keep their spirits high.
