Man, his two children charred to death as hut catches fire in Raipur

RAIPUR: A man and his two minor children were charred to death while his wife and mother sustained severe burns when the hut in which they were staying caught fire in Chhattisgarh's Raipur.The incident took place in the wee hours of Saturday.The hut covered with tin went up in flames within minutes giving no time for dwellers to rush out in mid of the sleep. Prima facie indicates a short circuit to have triggered the fire.The 25-year-old deceased was identified as Sujit Das who was found charred to death on the spot while his two children Tuktuk (5), and Kavya (3), succumbed to burns during treatment at a hospital.Raipur district administration provided immediate relief compensation of Rs 12 lakh to the bereaved family. Soon, police and fire brigade were informed and efforts were made to douse the fire.Both the children were hardly breathing when rescued and rushed to hospital as they were 100 per cent burnt while their mother and grandmother were undergoing treatment and their condition was stated to be critical.Police said though the reason of fire wasn't known yet, it appears electric short circuit triggered the fire. Raipur mayor Pramod Dubey and legislator Kuldeep Singh Juneja visited the victims.Raipur collector Baswaraju S extended financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each and also arranged proper treatment to victims at DKS super speciality hospital.However, the families of deceased have demanded a thorough investigation in the case as they suspect some foul play saying that earlier also there were attempts made by anti-social elements to set the hut on fire.Police said that the incident took place early morning at around 3am at Sweeper Colony in Tikrapara region of the state capital and there was chaos in the slum area when local residents spotted heavy smoke oozing out of the hut.
