Chhattisgarh to go to polls in three rounds on Apr 11, 18 and 23

As per schedule, polling in Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Durg, Surguja, Janjgir-Champa (SC) and Raigarh will be held on April 23. RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh state is going to polls in three phases with polling in four Maoist- affected Lok Sabha constituencies, out of total 11, to be held in the first two phases scheduled for April 11 and 18. The third phase of polling will be on April 23.Briefing reporters about detailed schedule of elections, state's chief electoral officer Subrat Sahoo said polling in Bastar (ST) Lok Sabha constituency will be held in the first phase on April 11 while Maoist-affected Kanker (ST), also in tribal Bastar region, and Rajnandgaon and Mahasamund constituency will go to polls on April 18.He said the model code of conduct for the elections have come into force with immediate effect with the announcement of elections.Maoists have a strong presence in Bastar (ST) and Kanker (ST) constituencies while their influence in Rajnandgaon is confined to certain pockets in bordering Maharashtra and Kanker district.Some part of Mahasamund is also Maoist-affected.
