Chhattisgarh: CRPF jawan martyred, five injured in Maoist ambush in Dantewada

An encounter broke out between the two sides when CRPF retaliated to the attack. The two policemen were with the district force. The encounter took place near Kondapara and Kamalpur post of the paramilitary force, Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallava said adding that the encounter was still underway, till filing of this report.The fierce encounter started around Monday noon and few injured Maoists took refuge in the deep forest while others continued firing. Six CRPF personnel had sustained injuries and one was severely wounded who succumbed within hours of being evacuated.Two of the jawans were stated to be critically stable and three others sustained bullet injuries.As the base camp was informed, reinforcement was rushed to the spot and jawans were rescued from the spot. RAIPUR: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel was killed and five jawans were injured in an encounter with banned outfit of Maoists during an anti-Naxal operation in Bastar’s restive Dantewada district on Monday.According to information, a team of 231 battalion of CRPF jawans was on a routine search operation in Aranpur region when Maoists ambushed them and triggered an IED before opening indiscriminate fire. They were being rushed to Dantewada headquarters and then to be airlifted to Raipur for treatment.Police team along with Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallava were on their way to the ambush site.The deceased jawan is yet to be identified.Marking their presence felt and aiming to create terror among people during Lok Sabha elections, Maoists had been releasing posters and banners appealing voters to boycott polls. Bastar goes for polls in first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 11.Maoists during Vidhan Sabha elections in Chhattisgarh had attacked a media team accompanied by security personnel which killed one Doordarshan broadcaster and three security jawans on October 31, days before the polls were scheduled.The mediaperson who died was Achyutananda Sahu, a cameraman with the state-run broadcaster Doordarshan. The two policemen were with the district force.
