The Hitavada State Bureau : Kondagaon/Raipur While Bastar University prevents these students citing UGC norms students blame it on college and varsity admns for keeping them in dark Deprived of final year examination around 500 students of three government colleges in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh have warned Bastar University to move the High Court of Chhattisgarh for justice. While the colleges affiliated to the Bastar University prevents these students from sitting in the final year Under Graduate and Post Graduate examinations commencing from June 28 citing University Grants Commission (UGC) norms students blame it on the college and university administrations for keeping them in dark about the same. According to UGC norms a student is not eligible to continue his/her study from where he or she left once he or she takes a gap of more than six years. According to UGC provisions three years relaxations in the gap can be granted to a student. After the examination forms are rejected by the colleges students said that they will take the battle to the Court if deprived of examination. “Our future is at stake. The colleges should have informed us about the UGC norms which were also not uploaded on the university website” said the students. Hundreds of students reached Government Gundadhur Post Graduate College Kondagaon on Saturday after receiving information about the rejection of examination forms and created a chaos. According to College Principal Kiran Nureti said that around 500 students of the district have been declared ineligible to appear for the examination due to a long gap from the study. Those who have taken admission in the final year will be accommodated in the first year as per the decision of the University and those students who are interested can take the advantage of this relaxation. However most students did not show interest in this proposal said the Principal. The examination fees collected from such students will be refunded the Principal said. According to the Public Participation Committee president the colleges should have returned the examination application of students when they submitted it. The president also warned of knocking of the door of the High Court if Bastar University does not resolve the matter at the earliest. When contacted Bastar University Vice Chancellor Professor S K Singh said that these students have discontinued their study from 2014 and now it is 2021. Almost seven years have passed. According to UGC norms such students cannot be allowed to continue from where they left. They should start fresh. “If we allow such students the credibility of the university will be at stake. The university will certainly face legal action in case of violation of UGC norms” said the Vice Chancellor. Still the university is writing to the UGC for relaxation for such students. However it is upto the UGC whether it consider the plea. “We are holding annual examination from June 28 and we can accommodate such students if UGC grants us permission. As far as examination fee is concerned we will refund it” said the Vice Chancellor while talking to this newspaper. The Vice Chancellor said that the examination procedures are being held online due to Covid-19. Like regular students these students also submitted their applications. When the applications were entered in the computer they got rejected due to the gap taken by the students said the Vice Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor also questioned the intention of such students who want to take undue advantage of examination being held on Blended Mode. It is to be mentioned the state government has decided to hold open book examination which has come as blessing for those who had been refraining from examinations in the examination centres.
