Tuskers in Dhamtari forests spark unease among locals Our Correspondent DHAMTARI THE resurgence of jumbos in the districts forest-dominated areas has sparked unease among the local populace due to their potential for causing destruction and bring about human and property loss. However so far these jumbos have primarily affected crops the local residents are under grip of terror fearing untoward at any fraction of time. In a noticeable shift the districts forests are now witnessing a significant influx of ferocious jumbos primarily migrating from the neighbouring Gariaband and Mahasamund districts. Recently a sizable herd of elephants was spotted within the confines of the Sadbahara forest area. The elephants ventured perilously close to rural settlements prompting villagers to take action and chase them away. As per the recent updates this herd of elephants is progressing further and is now encroaching upon the forests surrounding the village of Khallari. Along the way there have been instances of crop damage amplifying concerns among farmers and local communities. The forest authorities were alerted when villagers in the Magarlod area observed three elephants in the forests. While the local forest team is diligently monitoring the situation the elephants have yet to halt their movement. So far except for crop-related losses no major damages have been reported. However the re-emergence of elephants in the districts landscape has rekindled memories of the havoc they have wrought in the past. This area has experienced the destructive power of these majestic animals as they have previously ventured into rural regions causing loss of both life and property. Furthermore there have been instances where elephants encroached upon regions near the city stirring renewed concerns of their potential impact.
