Five STF personnel injured in Bastar Naxalite attack

Police claimed that at least 20 Naxalites were either killed or injured during the operation. RAIPUR: Five security personnel of Chhattisgarh's Special Task Force were injured on Saturday during an encounter with the Naxalites in the forests of restive Sukma district in tribal Bastar region.Special Director General of Police D M Awasthi told reporters here that all the injured have been airlifted to a hospital in Raipur. The security team comprising of about 1500 personnel from the CRPF, district reserve group , Special Task force and district force launched a combing operation in the area considered as a stronghold of the Naxals.They opened fire at the security forces around 9am leading to an encounter that continued for about six hours. The condition of three of the injured is reported to be serious.Security forces and the Naxalites were engaged in a fierce gunbattle in the forests of Tondamraka in Sukma district after the forces launched an operation following a tip off about the presence of nearly 200 Naxals in the area early morning.
