Police have no information about Maoist Hidma's promotion

"It's propaganda spread by rebels to keep local cadres motivated. "While there's no intelligence input, either from informers or technical resources, about Hidma being promoted as a central committee member, none of the Maoist literature seized recently suggest that Hidma has been elevated. It is very unlikely, too, since Hidma isn't qualified enough or educated to become a member of the central area committee. He heads Battalion 1 of the rebel 'military unit' and is a member of Dandakaranya Zonal Committee . Recent reports suggest that he was made a member of the central committee at a meeting of senior leaders in Abujhmad, the so-called 'liberated zone' in south Chhattisgarh.

RAIPUR: Amid speculation that hardcore Maoist commander Madvi Hidma has been elevated to the central committee of the outlawed CPI-Maoists , senior officers in Chhattisgarh intelligence and police have said there is neither human nor technical intelligence to suggest anything close to it.Hidma doesn't qualify for the post that's mostly reserved for senior, educated cadres of Andhra Pradesh, said an officer, adding that it is Maoist propaganda to counter claims that they are biased against local cadre.Hidma, a tribal from a small village in Sukma district , is perhaps the most dreaded name in Bastar and is alleged to have masterminded the massacre of over three dozen CRPF personnel in Sukma this year alone. If true, it would be the first time that a local cadre made it to the all-powerful central committee.Police, however, say it is not so. Moreover, the top leadership is entirely dominated by the senior cadres of Andhra Pradesh for which they are accused of being biased against local tribal cadres of Bastar," special DG (Naxal Operations) D M Awasthi told TOI.Hidma is only a Class 10 passout while it's mandatory to be a graduate for the post of central committee member, say police. "It's propaganda spread by rebels to keep local cadres motivated. There was a meeting held at Abujhmad recently, but Hidma wasn't there. If he has been promoted, it will be known once the latest issue of their magazine, Prabhat, releases," a senior police officer said.
