Cyber experts sound caution on growing craze of Blue Whale online dare

RAIPUR: With the Blue Whale killer challenge occupying more mind space than other online games, cyber experts from Chhattisgarh have sounded caution on the growing craze of the online dare. Danger still lurks as searches for Blue Whale game is being reported from across the state. "Ideally, in the original version of Blue Whale game, the player attempted the challenging tasks on the direction of a curator, who played the mind games and forced the player to commit suicide. The hackers are grabbing the opportunity for releasing malware attacks and encrypt personal data by creating and uploading duplicate version of Blue Whale game.Talking to TOI, Mohit said, "Despite the life-threatening consequences of the online dare, youths are tempted to try the game once. But as the original game has been deleted from the internet, those thinking of taking up the online challenge should be aware of not downloading any version of the game as it may hack the personal data to blackmail the person which could lead to financial and other losses.

They have advised the parents to keep an eye on their ward's browsing activity as a sizeable number of internet users from the state are found to be searching the game online.State IT department's freelancer consultant and ethical hacker Mohit Sahu said that after the arrest of the founder of the Blue Whale challenge, the original version of the game has been completely wiped out from the internet. The duplicate versions of the game no longer have a curator and hackers have their modified versions to hack the player's personal data, Mohit added.As per ethical hacker's search on internet surfing for Blue Whale game, the hackers claim that in the last 15 days, Chhattisgarh remained in top five positions.For the safety of residents especially children from falling prey to the Blue Whale online challenge, Chhattisgarh's Child Protection Authority is spreading word of caution among the school education and other departments.Talking to TOI, Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chiarman Dr M Geeta said, "To avert the danger looming large, the department has directed all district administration officials to spread a word of caution among the parents to keep a watch on the browsing content of the children."
