Horse found infected with glanders in Rajkot

Rajkot: The animal husbandry department of Rajkot district have issued orders banning movement of horses and donkeys and other equine animals within and outside the district.The order was issued after a horse from Bhagvatipara area of Rajkot city tested positive for glanders disease. The department put the horse to sleep as per the scientific system prescribed under the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contentious Disease in Animals Act-2009, a statement by the district administration stated.A statement issued by animal medication officer Dr J K Vora said, “A human also can also get infected by glanders disease and it can spread to other animals like horses and donkeys.” tnn
