AHMEDABAD/RAJKOT: Investigation into the death of the three-year-old girl, whose body was found from a borewell at a cotton mill compound in Biliyada village of Gondal taluka on Monday, revealed that she was murdered by her 38-year-old neighbour after a tiff with her father.Police have arrested Madhav Pratapsinh Chauhan , a native of Alirajpur in Madhya Pradesh, for the murder of Varsha, daughter of Lalu Chauhan, also a native of Alirajpur. The girl's body was excavated from the borewell on Monday where she was stuck at 20 feet.Postmortem of the girl revealed she had died because of severe head injury caused by a heavy object. When police questioned Lalu he named Madhav as the prime suspect of the murder as they had a fight on the day the girl had gone missing - June 6.Lalu and his family live in a cabin in the compound of Bhalal Cotton Mill, where he works as a labourer. On the morning of June 6, Varsha went missing while playing near her house. In the evening, Lalu lodged a complaint of abduction with Gondal taluka police station.According to police, on June 6, Lalu had a quarrel with his wife Sumitra over the former's alleged interest in Madhav's 15-year-old daughter.After the fight, Sumitra left her house and went to her sister's place in Jalaram Cotton Mill Compound near Bhalal Cotton Mill.After Sumitra left, Madhav came to counsel Lalu and told him that what will happen if Sumitra went off. In reply, Lalu said he will bring Madhav's daughter as his wife and left.Furious over Lalu's reply, Madhav vent out his anger on Varsha, who was playing in the mill compound. Police said that Madhav first slapped her and then hit her with a heavy wooden block on the head killing her on the spot. Madhav then hid the body under the garbage heap in the mill compound.Meanwhile, Varsha's mother returned to fetch her. On not finding her in the house she started searching for her and called for help. "Fearing that he would be caught, Madhav put Varsha's body in a plastic bag and dumped it into the open borewell in the compound," said circle PI V R Vaniya, who is investigating the case.Madhav confessed to his crime during questioning, following which he was arrested.
