Five from J&K held with illegal firearms in Rajkot

The special operation group (SOG) of Rajkot police had a tip-off that the accused had procured fake licences for the firearms which they had purchased from the government gun manufacturing units and authorised shops.During interrogation, the accused said that a gun shop owner had sold them the fake licences for Rs 30,000 each, said police.“Acting on the tip-off, we first cross checked with Rajouri district officials who stoutly denied having issued the arms licences to the accused. They were arrested for possessing illegal firearms with fake licences from different areas of Rajkot on Friday night.The accused told police that as security guards with licensed rifles used to get higher salaries, they had decided to procure rifles for better job prospects.The accused identified as Kamalsinh Kishanlal (30), a native of Rajouri town and Rameshsinh Harisinh (31), Panjanar village, were arrested from Jagruti Society in the Bhomeshwar Society area.While Surajitsinh Baldevsinh (32), a native of Dali village, Kashmirisinh Mastramsih (33) and Dilipsinh Nayansinh (35), both natives of Kalkot village, were arrested from Kishanpara Chowk in Mafatiyapara area of Rajkot, late on Friday night.The accused were found in possession of five 12 bore rifles and 56 live cartridges, worth Rs 1.95 lakh.
