Lost parking space regained

Rajkot: The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) began demolition drive on 150-feet Ring Road on Thursday to clear parking area encroached upon by local shopkeepers. The civic body has also warned educational institutes to provide parking space to students and parents coming to drop their wards. The civic body officials removed hoardings, banners the shops set up in the margin area for parking.According to RMC officials, the encroachments outside 36 shops on 150-feet Ring Road were removed on Thursday. The RMC team with earth movers started the razing operation under police protection.RMC town planning officer M D Sagadhia said, “Hoarding and signboards outside about a dozen shops were removed as they had encroached upon the parking space. In in other shops we had to remove some portions that was constructed in the margin area reserved for parking.” He said that the encroached space was used to display goods.Municipal commissioner Banchha Nidhi Pani and police commissioner Manoj Agrawal had on Tuesday issued ultimatum to shopkeepers asking them to remove illegal construction voluntarily or face action.
