Rajkot: Parents won’t have to worry about their kids getting lost in the crowded five-day fair ‘Goras Lok Mela,’ which will be held from September 1 to September 5 this year at the Race Course Ring Road in the city.Rajkot police have come up with a full-proof system for children.“Every child visiting the fair will be given identity cards with their parents’ cellphone numbers at the entrance points itself. And, if a child is spotted alone, our men will immediately contact his or her parents,” said police commissioner Manoj Agrawal, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday.Every year, the annual fair attracts nearly four to five lakh visitors each day. On Janmashtami, about eight lakh people visit the fair. “In all these years, there have been complaints of several kids going missing at the fair. There were also cases in which a child was found while his parents were missing. Though the kids and the parents used to be traced and reunited eventually, it would cause an mental trauma to them. To put an end to this problem, we have devised this system,” Agrawal said.Rajkot police will deploy about 3,000 cops to maintain law and order at the fair. There will be three deputy commissioners of police, 10 assistant commissioners of police, 37 police inspectors, 112 sub-inspectors, four companies from the state reserve police, 500 home guards and gram rakshak dal personnel and 2,000 constables including women constables deployed at the fair.“We have decided to deploy two personnel from every local crime branch across Saurashtra. They will catch pickpockets. That apart, there will be women cops in plain clothes who will nab molesters,” said Agrawal.Besides this, there will be 20 CCTV cameras installed at various places in the fair including entrance points which will have links to the police control room. There will also be metal detectors installed at the entrance points.“We have decided to install biometric authentication devices to monitor entry and exit of police personnel at the fair venue,” said Agrawal. This is to avoid cops who used to sneak out from the fair.Police have also rearranged the traffic routes for the convenience of visitors. “The Race Course Ring Road, the venue, where the fair is slated to be held has been declared a one-way,” said Agrawal. There will be pre-parking lots at 10 places. However, the entire Race Course Ring Road has been declared a no-parking zone.
