Delhi firm to install plastic crushing machines in city

Rajkot: Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has finalized the company to install reverse vending machines(RVM) in the city to curb plastic menace.This machine will crush the plastic water bottles and give a discount coupon to the user. Officials said that if all goes well, these machines will be installed at the locations within 45 days. The agency will have to build a temporary roof structure to keep these RVMs and the vendor will be allowed to sell the crushed plastic bottles.The company has to get the electricity connection and pay the bill. RMC will allow the vendor to put advertisement hoardings of 18 feet X 12 X 10 foot.These machines will be installed at Race Course, Limda Chowk, Sarveshvar Chowk, Greenland Chowkdi, Madhapar Chowkdi, Gondal road Chowkdi, KKM Hall, Hospital Chowk, GSRTC bus stand and railway junction. The operation and maintenance work will be assigned on the public-private partnership basis.RMC had invited expression of interest (EOI) with the condition that company will purchase these machine at their cost and maintain them.

The coupon can be exchanged at various outlets in the city, RMC said in a statement issued on Thursday.A Delhi-based firm has been chosen to install these machines that will accept the water bottles and generate Rs 5 coupon which can be exchanged at various eateries, ice cream parlours, shopping malls, theatres among others.Municipal commissioner Banchha Nidhi Pani has forwarded a proposal regarding this project to the standing committee for approval.
