Disqualified for absence, RMC councillor moves Guj HC

All the Congress councillors were marked absent for this.After this meeting, the municipal secretary sent a resolution for the disqualification of Jadeja with the signature of the mayor to the municipal commissioner, who held her disqualified, according to the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporation Act. At the last general body meeting, all the Congress members had chosen to sit in the audience gallery, to mark their protest at the civic body’s decision not to permit the general public to view the meeting. Ahmedabad: A councillor in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) moved the Gujarat high court, after the Rajkot municipal commissioner disqualified her for her failure to attend three consecutive general board meetings.The Congress party councillor of Ward No.18, Dharmishthaba Jadeja, challenged her disqualification in the high court and requested the court to stay the state election commission from holding fresh elections to the vacated seat.While the high court issued notice to the Rajkot municipal commissioner and the state government, the government promised the high court on Friday that it would not hold elections to the vacant seat at present.
