Man killed over brother’s elopement

Rajkot: A 25-year-old man was found murdered near a lake in Naghedi village of Khambhaliya taluka of Jamnagar late evening on Friday. Investigation revealed that the deceased Ramesh Bagda was allegedly killed as his brother had eloped with a married woman from a different community few months ago and was still untraceable.Bagda’s family members have lodged a complaint against four people — Altaf Humar, Kasam Jusaf, Mushtak Hothi and Iqbal Haji — all residents of Dared village on the outskirts of Jamnagar city.According to police, the deceased, who was a resident of Mota Mandha village of Khambhalia taluka, was killed on Thursday night and his body was recovered on Friday evening.Police said that since past few days, Bagda had been receiving missed-calls from a particular phone number. When he called back, a woman answered at the other end and started to talk to him romantically. According to Bagda’s friends, on September 6, the woman called and asked Bagda to meet her near Naghedi, which is an isolated place, after 10pm in the night.As soon as Bagda reached the place he was attacked with pipes, sticks and sharp-edged weapons. Police believes that after killing Bagda the accused dumped the body near the lake.Talking to TOI, police sub-inspector of Panchkoshi B-Division Meghrajsinh Vala said, “An old dispute could be the reason for Bagda’s murder. His brother Malde had eloped with the married sister of one of the accused few months ago and was still untraceable. Family members of the deceased are saying that this could be reason for the murder.”“We have found injury marks only under the knees of the deceased and are waiting for the final postmortem report to ascertain cause of the death. But primarily, it seems that he died due to excessive bleeding,” Vala said.
