Rajkot: A married woman and her paramour committed suicide by consuming poison in Bhensdal village of Dhrol taluka in Jamnagar district on Tuesday evening. Police said the deceased, identified as Sumitra Baria (25) and Hasmukh Vajelia (20), ended their lives as their respective families were opposed to their relationship owing to them belonging to different castes and Sumitra being already married.“Last Friday, the couple had eloped. On Tuesday evening, their bodies were found on the outskirts of Bhensdal village. There were bottles of insecticide lying near the bodies which established the fact that they had consumed poison,” an official from Dhrol police station said. Their bodies were found by Bhensdal sarpanch Haka Bharwad, who informed the police. The villagers knew both the victims. While Vajelia lived in Bhensdal village, Sumitra used to live in Meghpar village of Jodia taluka in Jamnagar district. Sumitra had separated from her husband and been living with her parents for the last five years. Two years ago, when she used to live in Bhensdal village with her family, she came in contact with Vajelia and love blossomed between the two.“Sumitra was a tribal hailing from Devgadh Baria of Dahod district. Her marital status was the main obstacle in her relationship with Vajelia. The members of both the families stoutly opposed the relationship. Hence, both decided to elope and eventually commit suicide. However, there was no suicide note found from the site of the crime,” a police official said.
