Slain woman’s body retrieved from crematorium

Rajkot: In a dramatic turn of events cops reached the crematorium , where the last rites of a 75-year-old woman were being performed, and retrieved the body after an anonymous caller informed the police control room that she was murdered.The incident occurred in Halmatiya Golida village near Rajkot where Mani Khachar was found lying dead on Thursday. As Khachar used to live alone, her neighbours thought that she had died a natural death. Hence, they decided to take her to the crematorium.“While preparation of her last rites was being under way, we received a call from an anonymous person stating that Khachar had not died a natural death and was in fact murdered. Having received this information, we immediately rushed to the crematorium and stopped the rites and retrieved the body,” said Aji Dam police station inspector P N Vaghela.The cops sent the body for postmortem, which confirmed strangulation as the cause of death.“It is suspected that Khachar was killed over her property.
