PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Museum on Sept 30

RAJKOT: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Museum developed at Alfred High School in Rajkot on September 30. Gandhiji had studied for seven years from 1880-1887 at Alfred High School and completed his matriculation.The school building was constructed by the Nawab of Junagadh in 1875 and named after Prince Alfred, the Duke of Edinburgh. The information will be available in two languages.A Gandhian study centre and a library has also been set up at the museum for researchers who want to study the life of Mahatma Gandhi. According to RMC, visitors won’t be allowed to take food inside the museum. It was renamed Mahatma Gandhi School after Independence.The PM is also likely to inaugurate an LNG terminal at Mundra the same day.The museum at Alfred High School has been developed at the cost of Rs 26 crore by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) “The museum will help spread the ideas of truth and non-violence.

It was renamed Mahatma Gandhi School after Independence.The PM is also likely to inaugurate an LNG terminal at Mundra the same day.The museum at Alfred High School has been developed at the cost of Rs 26 crore by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) “The museum will help spread the ideas of truth and non-violence. This will also be a major attraction for tourists, especially foreigners,” said RMC commissioner Banchha Nidhi Pani.Rajkot mayor Bina Acharya said, “The object of this museum is to spread Gandhiji’s principles among the new generation who can take inspiration from Bapu’s life.”RMC has also planned to generate revenue by setting up Swadeshi food court where ‘Satvik’ and Kathiawadi’ food will be served. According to RMC, visitors won’t be allowed to take food inside the museum. There will also be a souvenir shop run by Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Ashram.The museum has 42 rooms on the ground floor which will depict Gandhiji’s journey from being Mohandas to Mahatma and events and incidents which transformed his life. This will be depicted through projection mapping, animation and wall paintings. Through simulation technology, visitors will be able to better experience the events.The first floor of the school depicts Gandhiji’s principles like truth, non-violence, celibacy, respect for religions and others. There will be audio and video guides available for tourists besides a mobile phone application and guides. The information will be available in two languages.A Gandhian study centre and a library has also been set up at the museum for researchers who want to study the life of Mahatma Gandhi. The content was approved by a committee of experts and sourced from Ahmedabad-based Navjivan Press. The literature on Gandiji’s life will be available in seven foreign languages.
