Rajkot: A 54-year-old woman teacher of a government primary school committed suicide by first consuming poison and then jumping into Aji dam on Saturday morning.The deceased was identified as Vanita Patel, a resident of Chaitanya Bungalows, on Satya Sai Hospital Road in the city.However, the reason for her suicide was not immediately known. Her body was fished out of the dam water and sent for postmortem around noon.According to the police, Patel used to work as a teacher in primary school in Pal village near Rajkot. Police said she used to commute on scooter.On Saturday, after school hours she went to Aji dam, where she drank some poisonous substance and walked around for some time.Police said Patel seemed to have lost consciousness and fell in the dam water. Some people who saw her falling informed the 108 emergency ambulance service. The nursing staff found that Patel was already dead and informed the police.The nursing staff found Patel’s scooter, purse and other belongings nearby. When cops checked her mobile phone, they found number of missed calls. Cops called back on one of the numbers, which was received by Patel’s daughter-in-law. Police informed her about Patel’s death and asked family members to reach civil hospital.Patel’s husband Gopal is a retired teacher. One of her son is a doctor in government hospital in Padadhari, while the other son owns a small factory in Morbi. She was supposed to reach home by 11am, but when she didn’t come till 11.30am, her daughter-in-law tried to contact her.Police suspect it to be some family related issue. They said Patel’s family members were not in the condition to talk, hence they would be questioned later.
