Rajkot: Three fraudsters were booked on Sunday for allegedly trying to take possession of the goods that they had imported from Hong Kong at Pipavav Port by producing a bogus importer with a duplicate Aadhar card.The accused were identified as Rakesh Bhanushali, a resident of New Hill View Apartments in Ghatkopar West suburb of Mumbai, Sagar Torane, a resident of Gaurav Chal in Kalyan West suburb of Mumbai, and Rashid Sati, who, too, is from Mumbai, but his address is yet to be traced.According to the complaint lodged by Jamnagar customs department, Mumbai-based Vishal Enterprises had imported duplicate I Phones, TV sets and refrigerators from Hong Kong by showing them as a furniture and accessories consignment in March. This came to light when the customs officials opened the consignment and accessed its value as Rs 4 crore.As no one came to claim the consignment for a few months, it raised the suspicion of the customs department which opened the consignment and found the valuables, following which the department seized the consignment. Then Bhanushali approached the department, stating that the consignment had wrongly been shipped to India and that it should be released.“When the customs officials asked him to send someone from Vishal Enterprises, Bhanushali produced Torane as an employee of the company by making his bogus aadhar card. However, when the customs department probed, it detected the fraud and approached police with the complaint. Our investigation has found that the third accused Sati is involved as an aide in the crime,” said Jamnagar customs department superintendent Pradeepsinh Jhala, who has lodged a complaint in this regard with Jamnagar B division police station.Meanwhile, the customs department has decided to file a case of smuggling against Vishal Enterprises and the accused trio.
