Rajkot: Shock waves ran through coastal town of Kodinar in Gir-Somnath district after a 16-year-old girl’s body with multiple stabbing wounds was recovered near Una by-pass on Tuesday morning.Police said there were 35-37 wounds inflicted by a sharp weapon on the body and they strongly suspect that she was gang-raped. The girl was studying in class XI in the school run by a leading corporate in Kodinar.Police suspect that some students known to her in the school may have committed the dastardly crime. Two students have also been detained and their questioning is on, said Kodinar police inspector JB Chavda.“We have sent the body for forensic postmortem to Jamnagar. We can confirm the sexual assault only after the postmortem report is finalized,” Chavda told TOI.The girl left her house in Juni Bazaar area taking a book along at around 8:30pm after she got a call on the mobile phone. However, as she did not return for nearly an hour, the family members started searching for her in the town. When she was not located anywhere, they approached the police station and lodged a missing persons report at around 11pm. Her mobile phone was also switched off.In the morning, her body was recovered from the bushes close to Dateshwar Mahadev temple, two km from her house near Una bypass road.Police sources said that more than three people are involved in the crime.Some people in the neighbourhood also saw her going a bike after she left her house late in the evening. As she reportedly went willingly, it is strongly suspected that someone known to her subjected her to torture and possible sexual assault.
