RAJKOT: The murder of a 16-year-old girl in the coastal Kodinar town on Monday night has turned out to be brutal crime allegedly perpetrated by her jilted lover, a 20-year-old class XII drop-out.Kodinar police on Wednesday arrested class XII student Kashyap Purohit who had allegedly stabbed Vinisha Thakkrar nearly 35 times after she again rejected his proposal for relationship. Along with Kashyap, police also arrested his father Vijay Purohit, an employee of Ambuja Cements, for trying to destroy evidence and concealing the crime, and a 19-year-old girl Dharti Jayprakash who was allegedly an accomplice in the crime.Kashyap and the victim were studying in Ambuja School but the former had dropped out after class XII and joined his father’s profession of priest.According to the FIR lodged by Vinisha’s father, Kashyap was deeply in love with the girl for the last six months and had proposed to her earlier also. He used to frequently call her on the mobile phone. The girl’s mother had accidentally received one his calls and even reprimanded him, the FIR stated.“On November 5 evening, Kashyap took help of Dharti who asked Vinisha to come near the Shiva temple on the Una by-pass road. When she reached there, Kashyap again proposed to her but she rejected him like in the past. Kashyap got furious and started stabbing her repeatedly,” said JM Chavda, police inspector, Kodinar.In the meantime, the victim’s father and other family members had even gone to Purohit’s house to trace their daughter as she did not return home till late night. The father-son duo denied knowing her whereabouts. “In fact, they even went along with her family to search for her so that they don’t get suspicious about their involvement,” said police.The deceased girl’s father has a stationery shopVinisha and Kashyap’s families were known to each other as the latter’s uncle lived in her neighbourhood. Kashyap’s father used to go to her house for conducting religious rituals.
