Eight labourers arrested for attacking factory owner in Morbi

About 12 labourers, led by labour contractors Hemant Mishra and Manish Sahi, went to the factory premises and allegedly went on a rampage. When the labourers rushed to Mishra’s rescue, Jhalaria allegedly opened fire at them. They were caught from Pipaligam near Morbi.On Thursday night, the altercation had broken out between the labourers and Jhalaria over the issue of non-release of Rs 5 lakh payment due to the labourers. Rajkot: Police arrested eight labourers on Saturday in connection with Thursday night’s face-off between a group of labourers and the owner of Oram Ceramic Factory on Jetpar Road near Morbi.A labourer, identified as Rajkumar Pandit, was shot in his leg when the factory owner, identified as Mahendra Jhalaria (40), a resident of Anupam Society on Ravapar Road locality in Morbi, fired five rounds in self-defence when the labourers allegedly attacked him with bats.“We have booked both, the labourers as well as Jhalaria, for the crime. One of the bullets hit labourer Rajkumar Pandit in his leg.In his complaint, Sahi alleged that Mishra was attacked with a bat by Jhalaria when the former had gone to demand payment for the labourers.

They were caught from Pipaligam near Morbi.On Thursday night, the altercation had broken out between the labourers and Jhalaria over the issue of non-release of Rs 5 lakh payment due to the labourers. They first vandalized the security guard’s cabin and then launched an attack on Jhalaria’s cabin.According to the complaint lodged by Jhalaria, the attackers first pelted stones at his cabin and then started beating him up with bats. Jhalaria then took out his revolver and fired five rounds at them. One of the bullets hit labourer Rajkumar Pandit in his leg.In his complaint, Sahi alleged that Mishra was attacked with a bat by Jhalaria when the former had gone to demand payment for the labourers. When the labourers rushed to Mishra’s rescue, Jhalaria allegedly opened fire at them.
