Rajkot: A 20-year-old girl reportedly suffering from mental illness allegedly clobbered her mother to death in Salaya town of Devbhoomi Dwarka district on Saturday evening.According to police, the girl Najma alias Nazira Sama had a heated altercation with her mother Amina and their house in Dhan Sheri locality. Her mother reprimanded her after the argument and then got busy in household chores.Suddenly, Najma picked up a wooden club used for washing clothes and smashed it on her mother’s head from behind. She repeatedly clobbered her on the face and forehead, leaving Amina dead on the spot. Their neighbour rushed to the house hearing the commotion and found Amina lying in a pool of blood. She immediately informed the police, which rushed there and took Najma into custody.The neighbours and the girl’s uncle told police that Najma was suffering from some mental illness and often got extremely aggressive when things did not happen as per her wish. However, police are taking their claims of mental illness with a pinch of salt.PA Jadeja, in-charge police inspector, Salaya, told TOI: “After killing her mother, she drank water and even tried to wipe off the blood stains. This has raised suspicion about her mental illness. We have not detained her as we need to take medical experts’ opinion.”Najma’s parents were divorced many years ago and her father works in Poshitra village near Okha as a labourer.
