Rajkot: In a dramatic turn in the case of abduction of a newborn from Jamnagar’s GG Hospital, it has come to light that the child was kidnapped by a woman to convince her boyfriend, who had refused to marry her, that she had become mother of his child. Later, on the same day, the woman herself called the police and handed over the newborn saying that she had found it in Khodiyar Mata Temple.Police arrested Shilpa Vaghela (20), a resident of Khodiyar colony in Jamnagar, on Monday for kidnapping the newborn child of Suhana Bloch on Friday last (December 7) from GG Hospital in Jamnagar. Bloch had given a birth to a girl child at 2pm on Friday.According to police, Vaghela, dressed as a nurse, took the newborn from her grandmother saying she needs to give an injection to the child and fill some forms. But she did not return. So, the Blochs informed police. The CCTV footage from the hospital showed a nurse taking the child. However, when Vaghela reached home with the child her parents convinced her to return it.But fearing that she would get caught, Vaghela changed her clothes and look and called the police saying somebody had abandoned a child near Khodiyar temple.Police returned the child to the parents, but suspected Vaghela and kept a watch on her movements.Jamnagar SP Sharad Singhal told TOI, “The accused was in love with somebody but he refused to marry her. She (Vaghela) told him in June that she was pregnant. But her boyfriend gave her a tablet to abort the child. But she kept insisting to get married. So, to get her boyfriend to marry her she abducted the newborn from the hospital.”“She wanted to pressurize her boyfriend into marriage. They were in a relationship since past three years,” Singhal added.Vaghela is a student of ITI in Jamnagar and has been booked under IPC Section 363 for kidnapping a child.
