Jayanti Bhanushali held big sway over 3 lakh community voters

RAJKOT: The murder of senior BJP leader Jayanti Bhanushali , barely few months before Lok Sabha elections, may force BJP to revisit its vote arithmetic.The slain 54-year-old leader held a considerable sway over the Bhanushali community which has nearly 3 lakh voters in Kutch district . Kutch BJP MP Vinod Chavda said, “It is indeed a big loss to the party. Bhanushali had lost to Chhabil Patel, then a Congressman who joined BJP in 2014, triggering bitter enmity between them. The community, which is mostly engaged in various businesses, is mainly concentrated in Abdasa, Mandvi and Gandhidham. He was a prominent political and social leader of Kutch.”

The community, which is mostly engaged in various businesses, is mainly concentrated in Abdasa, Mandvi and Gandhidham. A significant number of Bhanushalis live in Mumbai too and many of them come to Kutch as they registered as voters here.Bhanushali had played a sheet anchor’s role in creating and strengthening BJP’s base in Kutch after the killer 2001 earthquake. Besides the Bhanushali community, he even wielded good influence among the Thakkars, another community which too is chiefly into business in Kutch.According to sources, he was considered a political heavyweight till 2012 when he lost the assembly election despite his influence in Abdasa, Mandvi and Gandhidham talukas. Bhanushali had lost to Chhabil Patel, then a Congressman who joined BJP in 2014, triggering bitter enmity between them. Patel is one of the six accused in the sensational murder.Political observers said that Bhanushali’s loss will be felt in the form of selection of leaders to campaign and garner votes of certain communities. Kutch BJP MP Vinod Chavda said, “It is indeed a big loss to the party. He was a prominent political and social leader of Kutch.”
