Uttarayan accidents claim three lives

Rajkot: At least three persons died and over 60 were injured in Uttarayan related accidents in Rajkot and nearby areas since Monday. Police said the duo were going towards Shriji Nagar when a sharp thread cut Priya’s throat resulting in heavy bleeding. The father-daughter duo were going to a temple on a bike with Priya sitting in the front. He suffered severe injuries on the head and back. Police said Padiya died after short treatment at a private hospital.A two-and-a-half-year-old boy Rahul, son of Suresh Vaghela (32), who sells helium gas filled balloons near Meghani Rang Bhuvan in Rajkot, died after he was mowed down by a speeding car.

The deceased include a two-and-a-half-year-old boy, a five-year-old girl and a 46-year-old man.According to police, those injured include people who suffered injuries due to glass-coated kite-flying threat (manja), fall from terraces, road accidents and fall from moving two-wheelers.Five-year-old Priya Jhadav’s throat got slit by manja when while she was riding with her father Sahdev Jhadav near Gandhi Baugh in Mahuva town of Bhavnagar on Monday evening. The father-daughter duo were going to a temple on a bike with Priya sitting in the front. Police said the duo were going towards Shriji Nagar when a sharp thread cut Priya’s throat resulting in heavy bleeding. She was rushed to Mahuva government hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.In another case, related to Uttarayan, Bharat Padiya (46), an imitation jewellery factory labourer, slipped on the stairs of his house while climbing down after flying kite on the St Kabir Road of Rajkot on Monday. He suffered severe injuries on the head and back. Police said Padiya died after short treatment at a private hospital.A two-and-a-half-year-old boy Rahul, son of Suresh Vaghela (32), who sells helium gas filled balloons near Meghani Rang Bhuvan in Rajkot, died after he was mowed down by a speeding car. The accident took place when Rahul’s parents Suresh and Hiral were selling balloons near Meghani Ran Bhuvan on Monday afternoon.Health officials said that at least 60 people were injured either due to sharp thread, falling off terraces and other Uttarayan-related causes.
